Introduction
Govt. College, Dera Bassi, is a semi-urban college that came into being in 1975 to cater to the educational needs of the youth of Dera Bassi and surrounding villages. The college is nestled in the lap of nature around 700 mts from the Chandigarh-Ambala Road. It had only 126 students on roll in the first year of its inception. The college shifted to its existing premises in 1984. Its present campus is spread over an area of 15 acres with 1563 students enrolled in undergraduate classes in arts, commerce and science in 22-23. This institution has grown from strength to strength since 1975 and has established itself as an accredited institution. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was established in July 2002. The college was accredited with a B+ grade in February 2004 and a B grade in February 2016.
The college has a lot of potential to grow. Its strength is its ability to cater to rural students and engage with the community, surrounding industry and local administration. This college has a formidable presence in the area due to its readiness to adopt technology, follow NEP guidelines, and lead in all initiatives of the government. It is this combination of tradition and modernity that has acted as the fountainhead of its growth.
